Angling Tuition 2009

Recreational Angling Ireland launches its programme of events for 2009

group

One of the chief aims of Recreational Angling Ireland is to develop an angling training programme for all. The RAI takes this seriously and as in former years it organises angling events all around Ireland in conjunction with the Regional Fisheries Boards. The intention of these days is to introduce youngsters to all aspects of angling.

The first two events of the year were a Coarse angling day on the 25th of April at Ross Lough under the jurisdiction of the Western Regional Fisheries Board and a Trout Fly fishing Daty at Mount Falcon rainbow fishery (Ballina) supported by the Western Regional Fisheries Board. Both were well attended and highly successful.

The next events will be a Pike angling day on Lough Gowna (supported by the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board) on the 9th of May and a Coarse fishing day at Oakland’s Fishery in New Ross (supported by the Southern Regional Fisheries Board). Applications for these days are being accepted now.

See a list of all the forthcoming events and how to apply below.

If you wish to take part in an event you must be aged between 8 and 18, complete an application form and send it to the National Coordinator Mark Corps at the CFB. Places are strictly restricted to 20 per event and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Days all run between 10.30 and 16.00.

All angling equipment and tuition is free (though a donation to the RAI and its work is welcome), however you will need to bring your own lunch, waterproofs and Wellingtons. Also you will need an adult to be with you.

Why not give fishing a try?

A series of one day angling sessions led by experts will be held throughout Ireland during 2009. Usually each session will begin with a talk on safety, the environment, good waterside manners and will concentrate on instruction in specific types of angling appropriate for each particular location.

After lunch there will be an opportunity to get hands on experience with rods, tackle etc. and weather permitting demonstrations / fishing on suitable waters.

Recreational Angling Ireland (RAI) is a thirty-two county organisation. The aim of the organisation is to include all national angling bodies involved in coarse, sea and game fishing, RAI has initiated and sponsored a youth angling training programme to encourage young people (8– 18 year olds) into angling. Qualified staff will give instruction and demonstration.

Young people with little or no experience are both encouraged and welcome to attend.
